Classic Pirate Stations
« on: June 11, 2013, 02:21:20 PM »
Radio Morania, Broadcast 1 and 2.  This station was a clever parody of an Eastern European broadcast station.  It was very popular in the 1970s.

The Voice of Communism - The Full Broadcast.  This is another very well-done parody of Radio Moscow right down to the familiar hum.  It is believed that one person did all the voices.  "That's the way the ball bounces in the Soviet Union!"

Radio Confusion (USA, 1981) made a "showtape" for a relay broadcast over Empire Radio in the UK.  Programming featuring announcers "Crazy Roger" and "Crazy Charlie".  I loved the "Chew and Screw" spot announcement and the "Dean Bean Bible Hour" feature.  Check out the heavy southern MA accents!

For your listening enjoyment here are several high quality recordings of RADIO CLANDESTINE, a very popular and well-produced North American shortwave pirate broadcaster from the 1970s and 1980s.

Nice video interviews with Hank Hayes and Jim Nazium, the operators of WFAT, along with FCC  Agent Judah Mansbach and Alexander Zimny, Engineer-in-Chief, FCC New York District in the early 1980s.
