Another NEAR-Fest First!  Starting with NEAR-Fest XV there will be a BONUS major door prize given away on Friday at 4:00 PM at the stage in the Relaxation Grove in the center of the Fairgrounds. This is in addition to the Grand Prize drawing for the FLEX-RADIO FLEX 3000 at 2:00PM Saturday.  This will be a truly fantastic item; a BUDDIPOLE DELUXE portable antenna system worth over $400.00.  We would encourage you to stick around Friday until 4:00;  we love to see the happy winner.   the winner does not have be present in order to win.  We will ship it to you if your name is drawn.

If you don't know what a Buddipole is, it is the creation of Budd Drummond, W3FF, who developed the "home brew" version and his son Chris, W6HFP, who produces the commercially manufactured version. 

The Buddipole is like an "Erector Set" antenna system that one can create all kinds of antennas in different configurations, covering all bands from 80/75 meters (with the optional low band coils) right up to 148 MHz.  You can even make two and three element Yagis for 10, 6 and 2 meters using some additional parts, all contained in a nicely made carry bag for total portability.

I am happy to welcome Buddipole as our new prize partner; we will be including one of their outstanding products in our prize lineup. As much as he would like to join us at Deerfield, logistics and scheduling make it virtually impossible so Chris has given us a really sweet deal on these wonderful antennas for door prizes.  This is just the kind of item we love to give away to some lucky person because they are of innovative design and the component parts are beautifully made in the USA of the highest quality materials, many of which are MILSPEC.  This is an antenna systems that can be used by just about any active radio amateur.

Buddipole publishes a fine book,  BUDDIPOLE IN THE FIELD by B Scott Andersen, NE1RD, and makes it available as a free download on their Web site as well as offering a printed version for $15.00.  Scott authored another highly informative paper on lightweight portable antennas Antennas for 100 Pound DX-peditions that contains a great deal more information on the Buddipole system another lightweight portable antennas.

And, this is just the beginning.....There is also a very active Google group for the Buddipole that anyone interested can join.  The are many downloads, photos, plans, ideas and a community of over six thousand fellow Buddipole users including Budd Drummond, W3FF, standing by to answer any question you may have on this remarkable antenna system.

I am pleased to report that the Buddipole Deluxe was won by John Allen, K1AE, of Bolton MA. 

NEAR-Fest would like to thank Chris Drummond, and his father Budd, W3FF, the inventor of the Buddipole for making it possible to give away this wonderful prize that John is taking home.  This new prize generated a great deal of "buzz" at NEAR-Fest XV that we want to do it again in October.  However, there will be one change; you don't have to be preent to win.  If your ticket is drawn we'll ship it to ya.

The Friday "bonus special prize drawing" for the Buddipole will be held at NEAR-Fest XVI on Friday October 10th, 2014.
