2015 Spring Ham Jam Festivous!
« on: April 04, 2015, 08:31:33 PM »

Woot!

Well we are just under a month now for the 2015 Spring Ham Jam Festivous.

ALL musicians are encouraged to participate and have fun!

If you would like to participate, just show up with your instrument of choice, even if it's a nose flute or harmonic armpit modulation flapper...   ;D

Helpful suggestions and common courtesy things for making the event run smooth:

  • The first and most important thing is to have fun!
  • If you have a song or songs that you would like to play, suggest it here in this topic. That way, we can all try to learn or practice the song if it's within our ability or if there is time. Sometimes we try to pre-coordinate music so that there is actually something to play. It helps keep it going. Although... there's usually not much down time, most of the time.
  • Help us help you!
  • Come early. Help get the ball rolling!
  • If you are playing and electric instrument, a small amp is preferred. It's a small room and a lot of power is not needed to be heard.
  • Make an effort to manage one's instrument volume no matter how loud it might get. It helps keep the volume to reasonable levels and allows lower-volume instruments to be heard. I've observed this several times, but when the volume gets too loud, people start leaving. We'd like to avoid that so everyone can enjoy it. It also it helps keep your ears from ringing afterwards.
  • Sometimes we get alot of people up on stage at once. It's helpful to sometimes step off occasionally so it gives others a chance to play.
  • Allow for different kinds or styles of music. If someone comes up with a banjo, then it might be a good idea to not be playing heavy electric stuff on top of it.
  • If you choose to participate: At the end of the night, everyone is expected to do their part in helping take down and help pack away any sound equipment that was used. It's the right thing to do. The owner(s) of the equipment appreciate this very much.
  • Lastly and most importantly: Have fun!

Be there, or be square!

I'll be there as usual, and I'll try and bring the Big Red Farfisa with me once again, after letting it sit the last one out (nothing cuts through the sonic guitar maelstrom quite like it!). I'll be bringing a few other toys as well, of course. I'll also be able to sing as usual; hopefully, we'll get to do Black Sabbath - Paranoid this time around!

Awesome!
I will bring the nose flute, if I can get the MIDI interface working. I did get a shiny new Gibson. Maybe I'll bring it as a backup, but nothing compares to the tone of a good nose flute.
See you all there!

I'm planning on being there with a Kurzweil K2VX synth in tow :)

I know how to play the drums too! :)

I wanted to thank everyone who participated in the Ham Jam this season and all the new individuals who came and participated. That's ALWAYS a good thing. I look forward to having you all come to next seasons Ham Jam.

I also wanted to thank all the individuals who continue to allow the musicians to come and play. Thanks to Mr. Mike, the volunteers and board members of the Near Fest organization. We wouldn't be here if it wasn't for them.

Also thank you to our Very Sound Guy, Ben. Thanks for the awesome stuff you do to keep the audio flowing.

Boy, that was fun! Thanks to everyone who played along with/put up with my keyboard 'playing', as well as my 'singing'. Hopefully, we'll get to play Paranoid at The Next Jam?............
