"Whitey" Bulger Captured in California!!!!
« on: June 24, 2011, 12:25:20 AM »
This doesn't have a thing to do with the hamfester but it's kinda interesting and very relevant here in New England......
On Wednesday June 22nd 2011 in Santa Monica California, the FBI captured the #1 fugitive on their Ten Most Wanted list; James J. "Whitey" Bulger of South Boston MA who has been on the run and in hiding for over sixteen years.

Here's how the BOSTON GLOBE broke the story on June 23rd 2011:

The tabloid BOSTON HERALD version of the same date:

WCVB Channel Five in Boston had the first exclusive picture of Whitey and his companion since his capture as it appears on the BOSTON HERALD Friday June 24th.  Looks kinda benign doesn't he?
Well, perhaps he looks inoffensive now at 81 years of age but back in the 60s, 70s and 80s "Whitey" Bulger was anything but harmless!  Here's 23 year-old Whitey Bulger's Boston Police Department mugshots from when he was arrested in 1953.  He does not look like someone you would want to mess with!

Another "tough guy" shot - Whitey's official Alcatraz mug shot

This is Whitey's "booking photo" taken by F.B.I. after his arrest on June 22nd, 2011:

MEDIA COVERAGE of Whitey Bulger

Here is the best resource to help follow this fascinating story that will be going on for quite a long time:

BOSTON GLOBE - Latest News:

WRKO talk show host and BOSTON HERALD columnist Howie Carr has written THE BROTHERS BULGER; a book about Whitey and his kid brother Billy, the ex- President of the Massachusetts Senate and former-President of UMass (the University of Massachusetts).  Howie has been reporting on the brothers for years and also has maintained the "Whitey Watch" Web site for years.  Here's Howie interviewed on the MSNBC Lawrence O'Donnell show THE LAST WORD on Thursday June 23rd 2011:

CBS News also did several feature pieces on Whitey that are very interesting.  Here's one that was aired after his capture:

(Note: you'll have to watch a short commercial announcement before the segment begins).

Sixty Minutes did four segments on Whitey and his kid brother Billy; a piece of work in his own right.  You aren't going to believe this guy either.  This segment ran in 2001 and is titled The F.B.I. and the Mob:

Then in 2006 Ed Bradley interviewed Kevin Weeks who was Whitey's right hand man for many years and literally know where the bodies were buried:

Kevin Weeks:

Finally in 2008 Steve Croft interviewed John Martorano; one of Whitey's most trusted hit men:

And then there's his little brother Billy who, in many ways, was just as powerful and fearsome in his own right.  This segment is from 1992:

If you're really interested in what this guy and his "associates" were up to you can download the Federal indictment from the U.S. Attorney's office, Boston Massachusetts:

It's 111 pages and reads like a crime novel.  Can you believe Whitey's being charged with 19 murders?  Unbelievable!

Who are the players?

James J "Whitey" Bulger:

John J Connolly Jr.

Stephen "The Rifleman" Flemmi:

Kevin Weeks:

John Martorano:

John Morris:

Additionally, if you search YOUTUBE you will find a wealth of material on Whitey and the boys.  Here is the FBI's TEN MOST WANTED segment about Whitey from a few years ago:

NEW!  October 2011 - Whitey's Life in Exile

And there's plenty more.

Stay tuned for a lot more interesting stuff as this story unfolds.  Whitey's trial date has not yet been set but you can be sure it'll be another soap opera as good if not better than the O.J. Simpson trial which was coincidentally going on at the same time as Whitey took off and wasn't seen for over 16 years.

Keep visiting.  This is a work in progress.  Thanks to Robert Crestohl, Montreal Canada for helping me research some of this material.
