Let's go players! Pull up your trousers and shimmy over to your computer keyboard and step in what I'm putting' down.

Well we're a month away. I can almost taste it. I know you wanna taste it too.
I've got gear to sell, money to buy and new songs to play!
I don't know about you people but I'm looking forward to seeing your ugly mugs and hearing' your broken voices and buying your unloved electronic musical gear.
I'm uglier than ever and my singing has gotten much worse (is that even possible?)
I've got a new guitar pick that makes me sound like a "Page" (Norman), "Hendrix" (Jiminy), and "SRVaughn" (Sarah Rachel). I can't play like them, I just sound like em. Only cost me 2 cows and my soul but it's worth it.

Just wondering who's coming? Should we start a song list of tunes to practice/play/drive into the ground?
We'll also have to keep in mind that the jam may only be an outdoor event depending on how things are shaking out.

Anyway lets see some chatter here and get with some positive waves for a change.

Me: Yes, even in his diminished capacity, many of us welcome his return.

Her: But I remember there was a really cute guy who was very talented. Why does he play with you guys?
Me: No one knows. We wanted to kick him out for being too good, but Mr. Mike said we had to welcome everyone,
Me: regardless of talent, so here we are.

Her: Who is Mr. Mike?

Mr. Mike is the Grand Imperial Poobah of the entire hamfest.

Her: Wow. He must be very wise.

Me: Indeed he is. Yet somehow he puts up with us.

Her: Why does the cute guy only have 4 strings on his guitar? Can't he afford more strings?

Me: Actually, that is a BASS guitar. Your have to be attractive or talented to play a guitar named after a fish.

Her: I see. Now I understand why you don't play one of those.

Me: I am glad you talked me out of buying that mint 62 jazz bass at the garage sale for $30.

Her: You are not very good at fishing either. You should avoid fish guitars as well as regular ones. I am glad I could help.

Her: If I go to watch the cute talented guy with the fish guitar, do I still have to listen to you play?

Me: I'm afraid so dear. Sometimes life just isn't fair.

Her: OK. I will stay home. Have fun, remember your meds, and don't buy any fish guitars for obvious reasons

As some of us get older, it is common to remember obscure memories - or so I have heard..

I remember riding on the school bus in elementary school. The "it" girl got on the bus.
She was holding a 45 single of a song called "Tush". (She probably did not what it meant at the time either, but I digress).
I can't blame her for my long history of well meaning, but uninspiring  guitar  playing, especially since I had no idea at the time what "Tush" meant. However,  some time later I  got a guitar and bought the "Fandango" album.
Life was different. In a good way.

We lost Dusty Hill this year. I didn't realize until very recently that it was Dusty that sang the vocals on Tush.

No one ever has, or probably ever will quite match the chaotic precision or greatness of the great ZZ Top.
I would like to get closer.

I'm gonna try very hard to make it to the Fester; working out the details now.  No keyboards, as I will be traveling by train/bus from Jersey and can only bring what I can carry so I will be a drummer only (unless Other Adam lets me play one of his many keyboards...LOL).

Bri here we some sobering news.

I had a talk with the Grand Poobah (AKA-Mr. Mike) yesterday and he's not sure we're going to have access to the entertainment (I use the term very loosely) building.
He indicated that since it's an enclosed space and we usually stuff all kinds of creatures in there it could be off limits for clinics, talks, and the jam. We have to see where the numbers (covid) are going and safety is the greatest concern.

That said we can always jam OUTSIDE.
It's CraZeE I know but at this point we might not have much choice. Jamming during the day outside in 60-75 degree weather is ok but crippled hands don't work too well at 42 degrees. Since the temp trend at night is usually in the 30's-50's I'd say the night jam is out; Unless we have access to the entertainment building.

Maybe we can designate some place for the outside jam where we can all set up and play/sell like they used to at Hopkinton Hosstraders. I'll check with the powers that be.

I'll probably bring an acoustic but I'm leaving the tour bus and touring rig at home. Bummer! I was really looking forward to those 8 Marshall stacks, the 4 22 year old Hot Gurl backup singers and the lighting truss to cover up my lack of talent.

Hello Bri and all the Ham Jammers:

Nice seeing you at Brookline yesterday.  Hope you sold a lotta stuff.

After our discussion yesterday at the flea I have pretty much decided that the Ham Jam as we know it held inside would present too much of a health risk and consequently I am cancelling it for NEAR-Fest XXX.

I have made this difficult decision early because I know many of the jammers like to make plans of what to bring and what to play and I feel this is a lot fairer to everyone than springing it on you all at the last minute.

Jammers are welcome to jam in smaller groups outside if the weather permits it.  During the day is fine too.  However should there be any complaints from the area residents or law enforcement you must agree to cease immediately with no complaints or arguments. 

Hopefully the Ham Jam can resume in all its original glory in the spring of 2022.

It came directly from me.  Too many people packed inside a small building exhaling vigorously as they belt out songs is a recipe for disaster.  We are asking folks to wear masks inside the buildings and it is very hard to sing with a rag over yer mug.  There is no way people can or will maintain 10? spacing at a jam.  It is too risky.

You may hold smaller jams outside during the fest.  But in October it can get kinda cold up there......

Hopefully spring 2022 will be less restrictive.
