I'll be bringing my electronic drum set for whatever we end up doing.  There will be playing somewhere!

Jammed Ham...

I feel stupid, but not really.
As of today, I was still thinking the Ham Jam was still on (inside). Oh well.
I'm subscribed to this topic, but never received any updates for new replies. Sometimes (general) notices are intermittent if I do get notices.

Better safe than sloppy.  :o

I'll just wear a mask like I do at work every day.

Will bring my electric stuff, but will also bring my Plan-B (small) acoustic bass if anyone is inclined to need a portable bass player.
We'll play it by ear.

Unfortunate, but understandable. :( I'll bring a smattering of smaller/battery-powered keyboards with me in case we decide to put something together outside. Even if we had an area with power like the Relaxation Grove stage, I rather doubt there'd be room for the Big Red Farfisa™ and my usual phalanx of large keyboards. In any case, hope to see you all there, and maybe jam as well!  :)

Jammin will happen.
I can recall a very cool impromptu jam that happened in the campground area in the Thursday campground area a few years ago. I don't have a fancy pants camper this time, but I will be there. The weather gods clearly want this jam to be  EPIC. I hope to see some of you Thursday, and the rest Friday!

You could use the stage in the relaxation grove if the weather permitted it.

It came directly from me.  Too many people packed inside a small building exhaling vigorously as they belt out songs is a recipe for disaster.  We are asking folks to wear masks inside the buildings and it is very hard to sing with a rag over yer mug.  There is no way people can or will maintain 10’ spacing at a jam.  It is too risky.

You may hold smaller jams outside during the fest.  But in October it can get kinda cold up there......

Hopefully spring 2022 will be less restrictive.

Welcome back!

MisterMike

This is disappointing.  What happened to "...everyone's an adult" as mentioned in this video @ 2m30sec? https://youtu.be/EX4LSUlholI

It's unfortunate that those same adults are actually only permitted to make personal choices deemed permissible by someone else.  Free to do as you choose, as long as it's permitted.  :-\

If someone is afraid to come to the jam, they're always free to stay out of the building.  The Deerfield fair managed to bring around 100,000 people through the gates and buildings, tightly packed shoulder-to-shoulder over the four days of the Fair with low single-digit percentage mask wearing and absolutely zero effort to "social distance". No breaking news of Deerfield being the epicenter of a super-spreader event.

As a member of the Deerfield Fair Association and having first-hand knowledge of what occurred there, how can you possibly justify this?

Of all places, "Live Free or Die" has never been under a more fierce attack than it has been in the last 20 months.

I'll close with this:

The New Hampshire state motto "Live Free or Die" was taken from a letter written by General John Stark, too weak to travel, to his comrades gathering to commemorate The Battle of Bennington. The letter closed, "Live free or die: Death is not the worst of evils".

New Hampshire memorialized this man for his unwavering commitment to freedom and liberty.  New Hampshire dedicated a bronze statue of this man in front of our capitol in 1890 and donated a marble statue which stands in the United States Capitol Crypt in Washington DC in 1894.  Our states Motto speaks his words all over our state still today.

Government is not the only entity that can restrict freedom and liberty.  It's all of our duties to defend and protect it, no matter the cost.  Our freedom is in jeopardy at every turn. It's time we all put our personal beliefs aside and collectively stand for liberty no matter how scary or how much we disagree; it needs all the help it can get. With freedom, we all win.

It may seem petty and some may feel it's an overreach to compare the Ham Jam to freedom and liberty but it's what's in the hearts and minds of the people making the decisions that cancel events like this that I hope to appeal to.

Hi Friends, I will be there! Just bringing an acoustic to jam at my camp site. I hope everyone understands that there will be no indoor jam at this(Oct 21) Near-Fest.

That sounds great! :D Hopefully we'll be able to convene there, and that the weather will hold up; AccuWeather is showing some probability of precipitation for 'overnight' on Friday, but hopefully that means it doesn't occur until sometime after the jam would be over. We'll have to keep an eye on the skies, methinks.

Yes, It kinda sucks that we don't have our usual comfy indoor jam.

Yes. I more than done with Covid.
Yes, I am fully vaccinated. I have done so by personal choice, as it should be.

Please note: I am considered an essential worker - I have been to work every day throughout. I am not into excuses. I might be old, but not that old...

Also note: Mr. Mike has provided very well reasoned explanations why previous hamfests had to be cancelled. Some of them are still valid. They are in the archives. Those who disagree should read them.
If you still disagree, while we still have a somewhat free country, start your own. I look forward to attending YOUR hamfest.

Mr. Mike and amazing crew have brought us a great hamfest for many years.
Please appreciate their efforts.

Thanks,
John,  Now AC2XN

Now that I have vented.. My car is packed with great stuff for sale (a bargain at any price - bring cash) and I will soon make the drive from Albany, NY.

I have a couple of (largish) nice tube amps for sale. I will also bring an electric instrument to enlouden them.
If things go electric, I will probably have a loaner amp available... bring something electric if you have one handy, just in case.
I also some other interesting non musical boat anchors.  My car is full..

Despite my best efforts, I could not find a suitable acoustic guitar that's ready to roll, so I might not fit in with you long haired commie hippie freaks!

I'll do my best. I am bringing a battery amp (with new batteries). Let's rock!

Hey all!
Sadly I’ll be remote tomorrow and won’t be at the fest in person. I’m bow hunting in Maine and I haven’t got my  🦌 yet. It looks like the weather gods on on your side! Hopefully I’ll be back in the spring. Have a great time, jam hard and record it so all can hear 👂
I second what John Gorsky said! Let’s leave the politics where they belong; In the shitter.

Stay safe,
Bri

An excellent jam was had by all, in spite of various circumstances. I still wish we could've used one of the other stages around the grounds, particularly the ones with lighting and/or a roof overhead due to the threat of rain, but we still made it work. 8) As always, thanks to everyone who participated or tried to participate, not to mention everyone who put up with my so-called singing and/or keyboard-playing. Can't wait for the next one, whatever form it may take, or wherever/whenever it may be held. ;D
