Bri, Rick, et al!

Glad to read the Jam went well.  As usual I was dead tired and crashed relatively early.  I am not sure what building we will be using in the Fall but will let you know when it has been determined.

Have a great summer, all!

A great jam was had by all! Thanks to everyone who made it, or tried to make it, and put up with my singing and keyboard playing. The room definitely had a fair amount of resonance to it, but we still managed to make it (mostly) work.

Hey all,
I'd post the recording I did of the jam but it's way over the size limit.
It's mostly the first 4 hours trimmed down without the 40 min. level adjustments by the players and removing dead air and go nowhere noodling.

I'll see if I can chop it up into chunks so I can.

Bri

I would be interested in that recording, as usual. Meant to set up my own recorder, but wasn't sure where I'd put it. Will have to invest in a little tripod, methinks. I know Rick had a GoPro camera recording, and I'd be interested in seeing some of that as well.

Yeah, it was an interesting experience. Oddest part was not having much seating, and not being able to use the chairs near the seminar area didn't help. Granted, we didn't have too many people watching us this time, but that may not be the case next time around, and it'd be nice if they had places to sit. In any case, I can't wait for the next jam, wherever it might be held.

I can't say a great time was had by all.

It's too bad some people couldn't behave and respect other players. I thought musicians were above pettiness.....but I guess not.

Sad really because there are some great musicians that come to NearFest. However many stay away from the jam because the jam is just an "altered state" fueled testosterone volume war. I'm not throwing stones because I've done the same in the past. If I couldn't fight it, I'd join it.

That's no longer my attitude. We're all getting older and I'm not interested in leaving crappy jam performances for future festers to hear. I'd rather leave something where people think "Well, that was ok; I'll go and have some fun and meet some new players"

I truly appreciate Rick bringing the PA but because of the acoustics of the hall and the volume wars it was overkill. He did his best. When the volume would go to 11 he would bring up the mics and then the amps went to 11. Rinse and repeat.

I would propose in the future there be a 2 part jam where part 1 would start @ 7pm or earlier with minimal PA, acoustic instruments and for those with electronic instruments: LOW POWERED/LOW VOLUME amplifiers.

Part 2 could start @ 9pm for the volume 11 crowd. Why 11? because it's 1 louder than 10.
And to some that makes sense.

One other thing: Who was the young lady that was trying to sing with us?
She had a very good voice when we could hear it over the volume war.

Last thing:The recording is way to big (@170mb) to upload here and I'm just not interested in spending a bunch of time editing out the dead air and garbage. If you want the file give me drop access to your google drive/Dropbox/whatever account and I'll send it. It's the first 3 hours of I believe 5 hours) of mind numbing material.

Just my 2 cents, your milage may vary.
