John K. Webb W1ETC
« on: February 06, 2008, 08:09:44 PM »
Sadly, my good friend and mentor John Webb, W1etc,  passed away this January.

I am writing to thank all of the organizers of Nearfest because John loved Deerfield over all of the past sites.  Without your efforts, John would not have enjoyed one last Deerfield journey last May.

John loved vintage gear and spent hundeds of patient hours teaching me to rebuild nc300; valiant; nc-73, sp-600 and a scratchy Apache. . . . . and every moment at May '07 Nearfest he loved checking out the military gear(darn, no t-368!) and searching for fresh , matching 6148's or checking out basket case amps like the gsb-101 without a transformer and he loved it when I bought the Collins receiver (he knew he wouldnt have to fix it, it worked great!).

Many thanks again to you organizers, you gave a special gift to my special friend.

I knew John and I am very saddened at the news of his passing.  I spoke to him at Deerfield last May.  He said he was having a wonderful time; it was great to be back and thanked us for all our efforts.

Speaking for the rest of the gang who work with me on the hamfest it was our great privilege and honor to make it possible for wonderful folks like W1ETC and all the Hosstraders/Deerfield Alumni to be back "home" where we belong, at Deerfield every six months.
