Near-Fest IV jam
« on: August 26, 2008, 09:51:02 PM »
Ahh,.... Brothers and Sisters.
Near-Fest IV is fast on the heels and I'm looking for talent.
Lord knows I don't have any but it doesn't stop me.

So after 3 months it's come to my attention that the band wasn't dragged off stage and burned in effigy. No one killed the power and no barn animals were hurt during the performance (Rick, can you return the sheep please? It's just wrong what your doing.) I'm wondering if we did something good.

I figure our audience was either:

A: Comatose
B: Tone deaf
C: Not listening
D: They actually liked us

Whatever the reason, Were gonna do it again!!
Mr. Mike has given me the go ahead to get Jam IV up and running.

So, I'm puttin' the word to the airwaves and the street.
I want all musicians to come out of the woodwork for this one.
If you play an instrument, sing, moan, drool, we want you.
If you have a drum kit, awesome PA system, 60's pre CBS Fender Tube amp, Bring it.
Wanna do covers? Thrash-Gospel Soul? Rolling Stones, Coldplay, Coldplay doing Rolling Stones?
Send me a list. I'll post it to the forum.
Got a bunch new synths just dying to be broken in? We'll help you. Got a yearn to burn some some original stuff? We wanna play it!!
I'm hoping Rick, Scott, Adam, Raj, The Kid and Cliff "Mr. Solo" will make it!!!

I'm also looking for song suggestions.
If you have  a list of songs you want to play, do us a favor and share that list. It'll give me a chance before hand to learn a few or at least acquaint myself with them.
I'll post some of the songs I plan on playing just to get the jam rolling.
I'm hoping the Pirate Ship will broadcast us again. Can you and Adam help us again John??

General info:

The jam will take place in the Entertainment building Friday night starting sometime between 8:15 and 9:00pm depending on when everything is setup.

There is no set time to end the jam. It could go till 12 or it could go till 4am
My guess is it'll end when we all drop, our fingers bleed and voices give out.

You need your own instrument and amp unless you've made plans to borrow from someone else.
Also, bring a little extra stuff in case someone forgot. Like mic, instrument cables, a throne for keyboard players/ drummers, power strips, picks, etc.
Please let me know what equipment your bringing so I can work logistics. Nothing like 16 cowbells and no sticks to hit them with.
Crap, I just gotta have more cowbell!!

I'll try to have the same 2 mixer amps for the vocals. They are not for guitar/keyboard/drums.
They only have 4 inputs so if someone has a 8 in or better mixer.......

If you bring lyrics/chord sheets of songs you want to do consider bringing enough for say 3 and make sure they can be read from a 2 or 3 foot distance.

Jammers need to remove their equipment right after the jam ends. The building needs to be put back in order and locked. No equipment will be allowed to stay in the building overnight.

Hope to see and hear you all Friday night.

For more info and to get an idea of the last jam see:

...I was thinking of bringing a Korg and a Peavy keyboard amp, but, since we can't leave instruments in the
barn I would have no-place to store them overnight. Is there someway around this?  Whatcha think???

Hi Cliff,
At this point, the players store everything in their cars.
The  jam building is multi use and will be used for other presentations before the jam and the next day. So the equipment can't stay there. In fact the building has to cleaned right after the jam.

Another issue is security.
I'm not sure the volunteer staff is prepared to handle all that on top of their many other duties.
Someone to sign in and out equipment, someone to watch, etc.
However there may be some other building on the grounds that may be suitable. Lets see if Mr. Mike chimes in.

Bri

P.S. I'm Still waiting to hear from the movers, shakers and players!
Where you at???

Gentlemen,

On behalf of Adam and myself, Crew of the Pirate Ship Radio operation, last time the jam session was held, we had a phenominal  success in setting up a dedicated microwave link between the jam session entertainment building and the broadcast stage.  We'll do it again this time for sure.  Count on it like death n' taxes!

When you guys were going over the radio, it was CRYSTAL CLEAR and any folks listening on the radio heard you just as clearly as if they were there.

The only thing we need:

Adjustable line level output to a male 1/8" stereo plug to go into our digital encoder for transmission to the broadcast console over the microwave link.

For best results, please provide a good microphone for live audio pickup and a good sturdy stand to place it on.  We'll take care of transmission!

Lookin' forward to it.

Best,

John, N1WIL

We're gettin' close.

Here's a list of equipment I'm bringing.

* Mic, mic stand and cable
* 2- Roland KC-100 4 input mixer/amp/speakers for Vocals/keyboards
* A mighty big ass power strip
* my guitar, stomp box, guitar chords, extra stings, guitar strap and amp
* Chord/lyric charts of songs i've listed

You need to bring:
Instrument players should bring their own instruments and some kind of amp unless they've made arrangements to borrow from another player.
I would refrain from bringing that huge Marshal stack. (or maybe not)  A  med size practice  or club amp should be fine.  Bring your effect pedals if you want.

Another mic, mic stand and cable would be good. backup vocals happen.
A mic mixer would be a plus as well.

We might be able to make use of the near-fest video projector.  If you email me chord/lyric charts i can make them into a presentation to be shown via video projector. This way we all get to see the lyrics and chords while we play. This will help the musically and vocally challenged players like myself.

Well, unfortunately I'm not talented enough to play any instruments or otherwise contribute in an "artistic" fashion, but I do operate a small DJ/Sound reinforcement company and can provide a selection of high quality sound equipment including:

16 channel mixer board;
100 foot 24 channel snake;
10 or so microphones, including 3 high end wireless;
Speakers & amplifiers;
Power cords;
8 PAR 38 and 8 PAR 56 lights with DMX controllers

Probably some other stuff I'm forgetting ...

I am planning to be there overnight Friday into Saturday, and can bring my 16 foot enclosed (and lockable) trailer if other options don't work out for places to secure equipment overnight.

I wasn't there last year, but sounds like a lot of fun. I would have to bring two vehicles if I bring the trailer (the one I was planning to bring was a camper), and I'm not sure if I would be charged extra for the second vehicle and trailer ... ?  Probably would I assume.

So let me know if this would be helpful and I'll make plans accordingly.

-Ben

Ben...

Lights would be really cool!
Especially if we are out on the stage(weather permitting)
It will be a good time whatever happens...and all are invited!

Thanks,

Cliff,

Do you guys need a bass player or are you all set?

Also, if you are open to a few other vintage (60's/70's/80's) songs,
I could suggest some.

Just let me know

Hi John,
So far no bass players have come forward.
Since no one's signed on you'll need to bring an amp as well.

Please send a list of songs you'd like to play!!

Hope to see you there,

Brian
