All I can say is that it's a good thing NEAR-Fest I isn't this week!

ALL roads in and out of Deerfield NH are closed due to the storm.  The area was badly hit by torrential rain Sunday and Monday with subsequent heavy flooding.  The Fairgrounds themselves are not at risk because they are on higher ground.  However there is some minimal damage reported; one large tree is down and there are probably lots of branches on the ground.  I was advised that the grounds are being used as a shelter for people who were stranded away from home by the storm so it could have been a LOT worse.  It is very unlikely that any of this will have any impact on NEAR-Fest I.

It is difficult to follow this story on the major networks and cable news channels because of the horrific events at VA Tech.  Otherwise I suspect this would be prominently covered.  If you want the latest news from the region follow these links:

The worst seems to be over.  I am expecting the situation will improve quickly and by the time we get there it will all be just a bad memory for those who experienced this storm.
