Will there be a microphonium and amp?
How about the Viking doing Dropkick Murphy's version of "Charlie on the MTA"?

I'll take this up with our Director of On-Site Communications, Mr Smith himself.  If he doesn't come up with something can anyone bring something?

If someone can bring some long XLR cables (I don't have any really long ones)  we can mike them up and put them over the air on 90.5FM.  I do have an 800Watt PA system with speakers and tripods from my mobile DJ days - this sound system is extremely loud, but it is HEAVY!

I'd hope to go the XLR/Cable route since most everyone will undoubtedly have access to an FM radio nearby and that should distribute the sound just as well if everyone tunes in.

Maybe it'd be easier to bring the jam session to you ;~)

I think the idea of having the Jam session at the stage area is the best way to go.

In the past there were a lot of complaints from not only the neighbors outside the Fair grounds but also from people attending the Fest who were close to the 'noise'.
Many people want to sleep and not be disturbed and if they know that the stage is where the loud music will be then they can park away from it if they want. I remember the JAM sessions going till 4 or 5 in the morning with 'Strings' playing Jimmy Hendrix's version of the Star Bangle Banner at the conclusion.
In the past N1ZZN, with his broadcash station, would bring a wireless mic to the jam sessions to broadcast the music. That worked nicely.

If I can figure out a way to do it, I'd like to broadcast the jam session on my 103.1 as well.

...find or tune a low power FM transmitter(stereo) at the live feed to a frequency not in use
and tune it in on an FM reciever...then rebroadcast that audio on your frequency. Kind of like a 'marti', You'll lose some fidelity, but, you'll at least have 'program' audio to work with....just my 2 cents...

I have one in my house and tune my clock radio to it, the program is mp3 music on computer in a fairly long playlist. I find this better than most of what I hear on the FM band! And I can wake up to my favorites!

Can't wait!

PS: the transmit antenna can be as simple as a receiver dipole....with a range of say 30-500 feet. I can drive that far and still hear it!

Someone else suggested that as well, great idea! I'll be using a different transmitter this time, so the one I've used in the past is available. All I'll need is a mic/amp to feed into it.

I am checking into a few things.  If we are able to be located near the stage area, and get some long XLR cables, we can easily mike up the Jam Session and Jeff, you are more than welcome to rebroadcast.  There would be minimal loss of fedelity if any.  We can also record in real time for "archival" purposes for download from www.pirateshipradio.com

We will have professional sound facilities at our booth so there are MANY high quality options available.

I am working on getting the cables from a friend for the mike feed as we speak.  If we have room, I'll also throw in our 800 watt PA amp and speakers as a bonus.

 ;)

Sounds good. If you're able to get a broadcast going, we will join forces together and simulcast the jam session.

I have 300W Solid State amp, two large band speakers, a 5 channel mixer board, and two mics (w/XLR connectors).
I was gonna use them for the AM 650 PA system during the day.... by night they could be transfered up to the stage for the session.

Shall I bring or not bring the goods?

Kriss,

VERY nice!  I actually did some working of the logistics on my end too...  we will be able to transport my 800Watt Peavey Amp and 2 sound reinforcement speakers with tripods.  I would love it if you could bring your mixer and XLR cables if your mixer has an XLR output.  We are planning to run a balanced XLR line back to our broadcast booth if we could get a mixer at the stage.  We have an available balanced XLR input channel on our broadcast board.

This "feed" would be run about 20 feet up in the trees back to our board so that people won'tbe walking/tripping, or driving over it.

Does your board have a balanced XLR output, and would you be willing to bring it?  Maybe we can pool our resources together and set this up for a gangbuster show both on the air and live.

Let me know your thoughts and what you can do, would love to hear it.

Where is the "jam session" going to be? This will allow myself and others who may want to sleep to set up as far away as possible though in some respects I'm not sure why I should have to move to the outback, I paid for a ticket too.
I think that if we are trying to get established here that noise volume and lateness should be restrained for the neighbors and festees that don't want to party half the night. Everything in moderation.
