Visit the Deerfield Community Church Ladies Booth.......for a Northern New England breakfast you won't soon forget! While you're there be sure to say say "hello and welcome" to a new amateur - KB1WZF, Kevin Barry. He's the white-haired gentleman presiding over the grill, cooking up a storm.
A few years ago Kevin who is the Deerfield Town Clerk and Tax Collector told me that he wanted to know more about the connection between amateur radio and emergency preparedness communications. He also expressed an interest in studying for his license. I told Kevin that if he ever earned his license NEAR-Fest would be happy to donate an emergency VHF radio station to the Town as his "reward"........
Kevin called me the other day to tell me that he passed the FCC licensing exam a couple of weeks ago and now holds the station call sign KB1WZF.
So, as promised, NEAR-Fest's next project is to assemble and donate the promised radio station to the Town of Deerfield. We are giving this project top priority and are planning on a presentation that will take place at the closing ceremony on Saturday at 2:00PM. Kevin will be there and I've asked him to invite some of the Town officials to attend as well.
Looking forward to NEAR-Fest XI which is only 8 days away as I write these lines.

MrMike, W1RC
