Near-Fest XIV Jam details
« on: September 02, 2013, 05:33:41 PM »
Hey Hammer-Jammers,
Were little more than a month away and I'm wondering who's coming to Near-Fest and more important; WHO'S COMING TO JAM???
Here the usual news you can use.

General Info:
The Jam will start between 7:30 and 8:30 dependin' on if the moon is in the right phase, the creek don't rise and the good lord (guy with the building key) is willing to let us in.
End time will be when we want it to. Could be 10:30pm, could be 2am.
I'll be coordinating the jam. Generally Some people will play a few songs then sit out while someone else plays. If there's a hole (bass player/drummer, etc) I may ask that person to stay up.
Please sit out every now and then and give another player some "play" time. I may ask you to sit out if your bogartin' the situation.

If the temps hold out maybe we can play out on the stage.
Or  maybe we can do a little afternoon "stage practice" if there's no planned event in the entertainment building.

There is no storage for equipment before or after the jam. (other than your own car/camper/etc)

Bring your own instrument, cables, stand, pedals and amp, AC cord, power strip, etc. unless you've made plans to borrow from someone else.
On the subject of amps. It's not a big space. 5-25 watt amps will fill the place and cause ears to bleed. So leave the  800 Jigawatt Marshall  with 8- 12" at home. We want to hear all the players not just the over amplified.

P.A.
I'm hoping Ben, Jenny and Andrea are bringing the PA, but I haven't heard yet.

Drums:
I don't know if someones bringing a kit or electronic set this time.
Anyone want to chime in on this one?

Misc.
Also, bring a little extra stuff in case a fellow musician forgot. Like picks, capo, guitar strings, power strips, mic, mic cable and stand, music stand, etc. I like cash so bring plenty for me.
Please let us know what equipment your bringing so I can work logistics. 16 cowbells and no sticks to hit them with is just stupid; and you can't fix stupid.

Anti-Dick clause
Please Don't be a dick.
Do come early or stay late to help us set up or break down.
If I have to ask you to help; Your a dick. Don't make me ask.
Don't hog the mic, play on endlessly or play way louder just cause you can. That's just dick
If I'm being a dick I have a 2 person notification clause. That means 2 non-related people have to tell me and I'll cease and desist..or at least chill a bit.

Bring lyrics/chord sheets of songs you want to play.
Musicians need to remove their equipment right after the jam ends. The building needs to be put back in order and locked. No equipment will be allowed to stay in the building overnight.

Thanks and hope to see/hear you at the jam.

Anyone interested in a practice session this Sunday 9/8?
If so, email me and I'll see if I can make it happen at my house.

Yes we are!  ;D

Unclear if Andrea is coming this time. It's tough being an adult and working for a living!!

See you there!

ey Cliffy,
So far you'r the only responder for Sunday.
Lets keep it open till sat. morning and then if we get more lost souls for a jam/practice we'll do it.
If not; We'll bring ear plugs for the audience at the Fest.

Not sure if me and the Farfisa will be able to make the practice, but I'll try! Not exactly the easiest thing to haul around, ya know.  ;) I do have a "new" (by way of 1982) drum machine we can use if we end up lacking a 'real' percussion section. I'll also bring my usual mix of oddball keyboards, and Peavey KB-60 amp. Can't wait! :D

Sooooo..... On the practice.

Sorry but aint gonna happen tomorrow.
2 guitars and a keyboard does not make a practice.
I'll see if I can swing another date in the next few weeks.
Most likely would be a Sunday.
Stay fresh my friends,

Bri

Bri, figured as much,
I have guitars to look after,
a new aquisition is a '92, Epi SG, white with  EMI's.
No, I am not bringing the 4x12's, just one 12 box and a head.

My guess is that all the forum-shuffling in recent months caused some of the jammers to drop off the online radar. Hopefully, more of them will be joining back up soon. If practice happens, I'll do my best to be there. Otherwise, we'll manage without, and the usual suspects will know where to find us next month.  8)

I will be there.

My mental slap-back echo has been acting more on the scale of light years for responding to this message. I thought I had "notify" enabled on this topic but apparently I didn't set it.

Enough of my obscure way of thinking.

If you decide to have some kind of pre-practice later, let me know. Otherwise, see you there.

Bri,
It's great to have you back. I'll be there.
I built a new amp and accidently put on a volume knob that went to 11. It was way too freaken loud. I'll bring that knob in case anyone shows up with a half stack! I am working on a suckage control. That way if I suck, I can turn down the knob. It dosen't seem to work in my case. I may just have to rely on the volume knob (or practice).
See you all there. BTW, I'll be in the camping area Thursday night if anyone wants to get together.

73,
John G.
