Little Brother Billy
« on: December 05, 2013, 06:31:33 AM »
Whitey's little brother Billy Bulger was also a force to be reckoned with.  He was President of the Massachusetts State Senate and the most powerful man in the Commonwealth.   When he retired after 17 years in that office, a record term, he became President of the University of Massachusetts.  Here's a great 60 MINUTES feature from 1992 about Billy.

In 2003 he was summoned to testify in front of a House sub-committee hearing in Washington DC and questioned about his knowledge of Whitey's whereabouts and about his relationship with his big brother.  For once the cool, in-control demeanor was gone.  Billy pleaded the Fifth.

Billy?s testimony begins at 46:46.

It's almost 5 hours total but well worth taking the time to watch "the Corrupt Midget" squirm under some pretty intense questioning.  Fortunately for him he was given immunity against prosecution.

Notice the man just over Billy's right shoulder.  That's Howie Carr, WRKO talk-show host and BOSTON HERALD columnist.  Howie has been the nemesis of both Bulgers for many years; his book THE BROTHERS BULGER was a best seller.  Back in the '80s Whitey sent one of his heavies to kill Howie but that's another story in itself.

After his Washington appearance then Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney ousted Billy as UMASS president. In 2004 Billy joined the faculties of Boston College and Suffolk University as a lecturer of political science.  Bulger lives in South Boston with Mary, his wife whom he married in 1960. They have nine children and 33 grandchildren. According to the Boston Herald list of state pensions, Bulger is currently receiving a pension from Massachusetts at a rate of $198,205.92.

Ya gotta love the Commonwealth of Massachusetts!
