"Brochure"
« on: May 24, 2007, 01:33:14 PM »
First of all, what a great job you all did.

My suggestion is one I hate to suggest, because it may just be one more piece of paper for the trash or to blow around, but... :-\

Maybe a "brochure" could be printed on letter size paper with a map of the fairgrounds, with landmarks like the Relaxation Area, Commercial vendor buildings, restrooms and visible landmarks noted, so attendees can get a better "lay of the land" and find things a little easier.  It could be 2 sided with the other side containing  "rules of the road", raffle time, etc.  Maybe a commercial vendor or 2 would take out a small ad to defray the cost of the flyer.

Again, great job and see you in the fall.

Actually Jack, it's a very good idea despite the 'trash' potential. Some of us talked about having something to hand out explaining the policies on selling ('Be sure to take home whatever you don't sell', etc) and a few other things. Putting a map on the back would make good sense and save on excess paper. It could show where the bathrooms are, AM Corral, Relaxation Grove, Special Event stations and so on. Since we'll be having speakers and displays in October, we should let folks know which buildings and areas to look for.

We really didn't do a lot for signs and directions once there, beyond small signs for the A.M. Corral. I basically did those to help out folks who'd never been before, but they were a bit....small? I heard one Deerfield newbie exclaiming on the Carrier net that the A.M. Corral signs were in the wrong place, they were supposed to be where the mil vehicle guys were. Actually, Dale picked a spot just outside the corral to allow easier access of the larger vehicles and a place to hang an antenna. The A.M. Corral is just beyond that area and has gotten smaller since '92, no doubt due to the increase in tree size as well as AMers! :)

I was thinking that signs would be a one-time thing to help the newbies, and once everyone got used to the place things would settle in. Might be a good idea to post larger, more visible signs this time and perhaps in the future. A brochure with a map is a good idea. Especially considering the crowd we had. What a turnout!

You could cut down on printing costs by having the brochure available as a pdf file on-line.  You would still have to print some up, but not as many.
