This is a list of companies and individuals who troubleshoot and repair ICOM Radios.  They are listed in the order that I personally would send a radio to them for repair or service.  Please note that this list is not an endorsement by NEAR-Fest for any of them but a Google or eHam search will produce several reviews on their performance.  The opinions expressed herein are strictly mine; no one elses?.

I have also added a couple other independent technicians that do other popular makes at the bottom of this documents.

Malcom Technical Support (MTS)
Scott Malcom

Former ICOM technician (ten years).  $60 per hour, works on older radios, rebuilds rotary digital encoders as well as all ICOM except ?big box Radios?, R9000, IC-781, IC-7800 etc.  Also services late model Kenwood.  Shop turnaround 14-21 days.  Scott strongly prefers communications by email which he answers promptly.  He is at the top of my list because of his fast turnaround, reasonable hourly rate and competency.  But two-way shipping costs add to the bottom line and turnaround time but this is, of course, no fault of Scott?s.  Mobiles and portables won?t apply because they can go by USPS Flat Rate and they claim 2-Day service to Toledo WA.
UPDATE:  Scott has announced that after 40 years he is retiring. He tells me he will continue to accept repair work from his existing customers.

Highly competent, does great work, reasonable rates. He does radio repairs as a sideline and this may affect your experience as far as turnaround time goes. Check with him for turnaround time.
UPDATE:  Charlie has asvised me he is not accepting any repair work for the time being.

Bruce is also a former Icom bench technician now providing ICOM radio service.  He also manufactures a replacement rotary digital encoder board for the IC-735 and other similar radios which he sells at a very reasonable price.  These are unobtanium  from ICOM.  If you prefer send him your encoder and he will install it for a very minimal charge.

Services ICOM and later Yaesus and Kenwoods. Paul does not do the ?big box? radios.  Hourly rate is $84; $164 if someone has tried to fix it and failed.  Check with him for current turn-around time.  I have had no experience with Paul but I have read lots of good online reviews from satisfied customers.
