inside parking
« on: April 30, 2009, 11:30:47 AM »
"Please consider buying an inside parking pass even if you don't plan on selling because it allows you to park inside the 'Fest and helps support NEAR-Fest's future endeavors. "

OK we know many non-sellers will buy an inside space if they are looking for heavy items... but with the number of real sellers and limited area inside, it's dumb to encourage it. It just forces the real sellers to the outskirts of the inside area.

Not everyone who drives inside the Fairgrounds has to park in the tailgating area you know.  Many people want to support the hamfest to ensure its future.   This is a voluntary way to do it.  Believe me it costs BIG BUCKS to throw this party every six months.  Would you rather we increase the general admission?  We'd prefer not to do this.

In addition we are trying to encourage more people to bring more stuff to sell.  Unlike other flea markets we don't charge sellers fees or sell measured spaces - just hand over another ten spot and take all the room you need, within reason of course.

For us this 'fester is more of a social event than an opportunity for commerce. We try to arrive as early as we can of Friday and don't leave until the party is over. We always buy an inside parking ticket and park our small motorhome out of the way near the AM corral.  We don't crowd any of the tailgaters, but we're close enough to hang out with the motley crew of miscreants that we call friends and the NEAR-fest makes a few bucks more than if we parked outside.   Seems like everyone wins this way.

This will be my first year as a tailgater, so this thread does raise a question, and I'll ask it. Is there a section of the grounds inside assigned for tailgaters and another inside for those who just want to park inside, or, is it first come, first park?

Thanks in advance for the reply. I look forward to your answer(s).

Richard,

It's basically first come, first park. Come in the gate, go find a spot, set up and sell, sell, sell.
Enjoy Near-Fest
