So Just to get some ideas ~flowing~ I wanted to submit a *preliminary* wish list. In other
words, It will probably change as other people submit theirs. I'll probably add or delete songs
from it.

All the material is dependent on other peoples abilities and likes. The most important is if
anyone can sing and/or play them. What I hope is that if we can get enough people to
buy into a song, that we actually play it when we are there. It's always fun to learn songs,
but it's even better when we can execute them together.

So if there is something you really want to do, mention it in future posts, or with
your own list. We can come up with lyrics, (sometimes chord sheets) or pointers to where
we can listen to the song. Let us know what instrument you'd like to play.

Anyway, here goes:

This list leans a little more towards R&B/funk than past years lists.

The main instrument I'm interested in is Bass (For All).

Andrea has a wish for the wish list.

She wants to sing her ham fest specialty again that she does each jam - Kryptonite.

She wants to know if anyone knows how to play "Take on Me" by AhHa. She says there is a keyboard part or two also so if anyone who plays the keyboard could take a look see and practice, she would love you forever!

She also wants to sing Mama Mia, but I told her that may be too girly for you rugged men, LOL!

I'll give her the list posted above by N1ERF and see if she wants to practice vocals on any of the songs listed.

Lat year's live feed sounded great. There are a few areas we want to improve on and will be working with John and Adam to make this year's jam even better. We are also going to attempt to record the jam Session in full via audio and video. We would like all amps hooked up to the main board so we can adjust what the music sounds like on the live feed since the live feed sounds so much different than the music in the room. One big problem we've had in the past is even tho the vocals may sound fine in the room, they are drown out in the live feed. We were able to correct this really well last spring by having everything hooked up to the mixer. I think everyone was happy!

I hope I said all that right. If not, I'm sure Ben will correct me!

Thanks!

Jenny

P.S. - I'm making/bringing food again. Please put in your requests here and if it isn't too expensive and exotic (no lobster Bri!!), I'll try to accommodate you. The pulled pork went over well two Jams ago so I'm thinking of doing that again along with maybe some meatballs, or cocktail weenies, some chips, fruits, veggies, bring your own refreshment.

Very close Jen,  I'm impressed!!  LOL

Actually what I'm going to try to do is get all the players "into the mix" somehow, but don't worry I don't expect you to have a way to plug in to the mixer,  - we'll do what we have done in the past -- Improvise!!  ;D We've been getting a little better every NEAR-FEST.

The reason for this is to ensure all the contributors can be heard not only in the room, but on the radio station feed as well. We usually don't have a problem with the (electric) guitars and drums (although I did mic the amp for the drum kit in the spring and that seemed to help) but some of the other instruments like the harmonica and violin got drowned out a bit before they were MICed. We want to make sure those who are there contributing their skills can be heard in all their glory!!

This time I'm going to try some different mic placement around the room as well as some additional MICing of discrete instruments to see if we can't top the spring's pretty good radio station feed as well have a nice mix for recording.

It's a bit hard when we don't know who's going to show up or what they are going to bring, but once again I refer back to the big "I" word above. And besides, that's half the fun :-)

-Ben

I use a "mixing amp" that has an XLR output to the main, so recording my keys should be no problem.

However: do we have a "Main Genre" that we're looking at as far as styles are concerned?  I can play anything from Scott Joplin to Fifty Cent, but ... what are our expectations here?

By the way, I'm fully expecting to play Booker T. & the MG's "Green Onions" (in Fm), so be prepared to take a solo, and I'm looking for some cool drums on this.

Well, I guess there are no rules on what genres get played. If you are a soloist, you bring your favorite songs and entertain your peers. If other individuals know the music, they are encouraged to participate and play. It

As the organizer of the jam at Near-Fest
I'll post my 2 cents worth.

This is an open mic that doesn't have a "practiced house band" with 150 blues, rock and standards in their back pocket.
It's a bunch of people of varying skills, ages and tastes trying to play music. We play (or try to) rock, blues, country, soul, pop, bluegrass and classical.
Sometimes there are 7 guitar players (all playing rhythm

I would like to second that motion for helping Ben, Jen & Andrea out on setup and tear down (and in any way possible).

It shows that we do not take them for granted and are thankful for all they do.

We don't take anything for granted.  Thank you ALL for making the "Jam" such a major and pupular aspect of NEAR-Fest.

See you all there in about three weeks!

Bri- I know I'm not great, but sheesh... "A bad drummer"... HAHA

In all seriousness, I'd love to play some Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd!

Hi all, I hope to bring 2 microphones, stands, music stand, possibly an 18 watt amp if I finish it in time, extra mic cables. any chance that anyone going to the jam could meet up in the morning to tell what they have and make it easier on the people setting up when the jam time comes? I'm hoping to sing ghost riders in the sky and have been practicing. Also blue moon ,16 tons vocals only, possibly try to remember (an old show tune) I will likely sit out brown eyed girl as I made the same mistake 2 years in a row (yeah thats me in the tape screwing up). If I dont know the tune peolple are playing I just turn my amp down and strum lightly so as not to interfere with it but get some learning experience, while looking at other players guitars to see what chords they are playing.

(2 meter baby, tricked out. all the bells and whistles. yeh yeh yeh)

But babe you see i'm hangin low, my get ups all gone

Who's next?
