Near-Fest Jam Host: Rick Allen
« on: February 01, 2011, 08:58:07 PM »
Jam-Festers,
As you know I'm taking a short hiatus as your Fest Jam co-oridinator.

I've asked a long time Near-Fest jammer to fill in for me as host for the spring Near-Fest.
As you know I'll be starting a new job soon and I will not be able to make Near-Fest IX.

You all know Rick Allen from just about Near-Fests beginning.
Rick has been at nearly every jam.
He's been playing rock for years and is currently in "Whoz Your Daddy"  (http://www.whozyourdaddy.org/)

He hails from RI, holds a general lic. and plays guitar, drums and sings.... even at the same time!
Please show Rick the respect and helpful attitude Near-Fest jammers are known for.

So, lets show Rick some love.

Bri

Rick,

As usual, the Jam will also be broadcast over The Pirate Ship on 95.1FM with board audio provided by Ben who sets up the PA.  As far as I know, Ben will be there.

We have a wireless link back to the "studio" where the feed will go to our broadcast setup, so you guys will be loud and clear all over Deerfield.  If anyone wants to record the Jam, just tune any FM receiver to our signal and into the recording instrument of your choosing.  Ben provides us with a very nice and balanced stereo feed so it always sounds fantastic, just like being there.

Ben, Andrea, and I plan on attending and providing the sound support again.

Hopefully we will have a little more time this event to set up. One of our hardest jobs (from my perspective anyways) is trying to run the cables around equipment so if we could get most of the cables run before people start setting up their instruments, that would be awesome. If not, we will just gingerly weave the cables in and out like I did last year and hope I don't knock anything over!!

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Hey Jen,
As soon as the forums are over for the day; we have access to the room so no worries there.  I plan on arriving there early myself to give Rick and you guys a hand (least I can do for what you guys are bringing to the Pirate Ship table).
Rick: I will be sure to stick around afterwards as usual to make sure the chairs/tables are back in place and the trash is picked up.

Hello Everyone:

Jenny, Andrea and I are indeed planning on being there...Jenny has not been feeling well, but hopefully she'll be better before by then.

We do try to get in the building just as soon as the forums wrap up, it's sometimes a bit of a struggle since there's not a lot of time between the forum wrapup and the jam startup, so this year we will be fousing on getting the necessary cables laid out before we set up anything else so you all can find a spot and get setup yourselves. I'm going to try to get a few more mics placed around for the purposes of picking up everything for the Pirate Ship, since sometimes some instruments are a bit underrepresented in the radio station feed.

One thing that we may need that I think Bri has covered in the previous few years - A plugstrip. Outlets are sometimes a little hard to find once the jammers start moving in. I have a big one, but it's set up for a 20A outlet, which I don't think the outlets in that building are. So if anyone else has one, bring it along!

See you there!

-Ben
